Band Camp requires 100% commitment from the entire band.  All Students are expected to attend all the days they are scheduled for.

Family vacations, doctor visits and other issues should not be scheduled during band camp.  Contact the Band Director if you have any questions.

Students should wear clothes appropriate for the weather

Bring sun block and bug spray (no exceptions, sun burns are no fun)

  • Bring a water bottle or camel back style of water container
  • (a back pack water container filled from home with ice and water can be a great help to keep a student hydrated)
  • Walmart often sells camel back style water backpacks for under $20
  • Students should get outside each day before summer camp to get accustomed to the heat
  • Students should drink water before and during each day of camp to remain hydrated

Contact the Band Director (Jody Lukac) if you have questions jody.lukac@ucps.k12.nc.us

Important Information

The Fall Band Schedule will be given out during camp once the football games have been finalized for the season.  After school starts, rehearsals will be on Tuesdays from , and Thursdays from until the end of October.

PRACTICES DURING SCHOOL

Once school starts, color guard and percussion will practice on Monday evenings from 6:30pm-8:30pm.  The entire band (EVERYONE) will practice on Tuesday evenings from 6pm-9pm and on Thursdays after school from 3:45pm-6:30pm.

GAMES AND CONTESTS

The band will perform at each football game, so please do not plan any activities on Friday evenings.  100% attendance is expected from every student.  The very end of September and about half of the Saturdays in October will be our COMPETITION days.  These contests are the peak of our marching season and it is absolutely imperative that every student attend every contest.  If a student is absent, he/she will lower the band score and ultimately hurt our overall placement in the contest.

If the football team makes the playoffs, the band will continue to perform at each playoff game.  Please be flexible.  If the team keeps winning, we keep playing.

Please do not schedule vacations, physicals, dentist appointments, summer jobs, DRIVERS ED, etc during any dates or times listed above.  It is vital to have everyone at each practice.  This is when we learn most of the show.  This is a large commitment to make, but without 100% attendance, we will not be able to have a successful season.

BANDS OF AMERICA

We want to compete again in Atlanta, Ga in the Georgia Dome.  BOA weekend is October 30 and 31, 2010.  We are asking that each band member pay $25 in September and $25 in October to help offset the $9000 cost it will take to get us down there.  This will help cover charter bus and hotel costs for the band.  More information will come as we get closer to the date.
